Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions that come up most.
Didn’t find the answer you were after?
Do I have to host someone in my home?
No, hosting is completely optional. Many members start by joining in with activities or travelling as a guest, and choose to host later if and when it suits them.
Can I still be involved if I can’t host overnight?
Yes. There are plenty of ways to be involved, including day hosting, sharing meals, helping with activities, or simply taking part in social events and journeys.
Can I travel without hosting?
Yes. Members can take part in journeys without hosting, although Friendship Force is built on a spirit of mutual exchange.
Is Friendship Force only for retired people?
No. While many members are retired or semi-retired, anyone with an interest in travel, cultural exchange, and meeting new people is welcome.
Do I need to know the people I stay with?
No. Hosts and guests are thoughtfully matched through the club, and many lasting friendships begin this way.
How are journeys organised?
Journeys are coordinated between clubs, with a mix of group activities and free time. Travel arrangements may vary, with members often making their own travel bookings.
Can I join if I don’t drive?
Yes. Many activities are organised in a way that allows members to participate, and lifts can often be arranged within the group.
How are destinations chosen?
Destinations are planned through the club and the wider Friendship Force network, with opportunities to be involved in the planning process.
